Elkhart Cemetery / Attraction in Illinois
Established in 1860 the Elkhart Cemetery is famous for its unique headstones, historic markers, and the beautiful Gillett Memorial Chapel built of locally quarried stone. Interred here are two 19th century celebrities. Richard Oglehurst was a close friend of Abraham Lincoln and the only governor of Illinois elected three times. Captain Adam Bogardous is also buried here. He was an original member of the Buffalo Bill Cody Wild West Show and a trap shooting world champion.
