Ariston Cafe / Restaurant in Illinois
The Ariston Cafe opened in Carlinville, Illinois in 1924 in 1929 founder Pete Adam relocated the restaurant to Litchfield. Construction of the current facility across the street from the original Litchfield restaurant commenced in 1934. The grand opening was on July 5, 1935. With the addition of a wing and modern entry the building including interior remains as it was in 1935. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2006, and inducted into the Route 66 Association of Illinois Hall of Fame in 1992, the Ariston Cafe is a crown jewel of Route 66 in Illinois.
