Ambler’s Texaco Station / Attraction in Illinois
Wow what a place! Ambler’s Texaco Gas Station is named for longtime manager Basil “Tubby” Ambler, who operated the station from 1938 to 1966. After Ambler sold the station it continued in business providing service to travelers as a gas station until 1999 which makes it one of the longest continually operated service stations on Route 66. In 2002 Phillip Becker donated the station to the Village of Dwight. The station was then restored to a period appearance. Today, the station serves as a visitor’s center for the Village of Dwight. It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
