Budville Trading Co / Abandoned Place in New Mexico
Established as a service station and garage complex by H.N. "Bud" Rice and his wife Flossie in 1928, Budville has a dark history. In the 1930s the business was expanded to include a trading post and store, and Bud began operating the only towing service between the Rio Puerco River crossing and Grants. He became a Justice of the Peace and was soon issuing steep fines to travelers for minor infractions. During a robbery in November 1967, Bud was shot and killed. His wife continued operating the business until 1979.
