Carl’s Drive In / Restaurant in Missouri
The building was originally a Lubrite Service Station that opened in 1918. In 1943 The building was converted into a hot dog stand with outdoor seating during the months of summer. It was named the Foot Long Hot Dog Company. In 1959 a tornado badly damaged the building. This was also the year that 25-year-old Carl Meyer bought the place with his wife, Pat, and named it Carl’s Drive In. Curb service and a walk-up window were introduced. In 1962 the building was remodeled and expanded to offer air conditioning and indoor seating for 16.
