The El Capitan Motel opened in 1955. The AAA Western Accommodations Directory published that year noted, "Spacious, tastefully furnished one and two room units, many air cooled. Central heat and tiled combination shower baths. Radios, alarm clocks. $6.50 to $8 per night."
