El Vado Auto Court

This vintage auto court has been transformed into a tap room, boutique lodging, restaurant and shop complex. Built by the same company that constructed the El Rey Court in Santa Fe in 1936, the El Vado opened in 1937. The 1940 edition of the AAA Directory of Motor Courts & Cottages noted, "Five minute drive from downtown, along the banks of the Rio Grande, adjoining golf course and bathing beach. 32 unites of two, three, four and five apartments and hotel rooms. Distinctive Spanish design. $2.50 to $5.00 per day." Prices have changed a lot since 1940!
