Greene County Courts / Landmark in Missouri
What is now known as the Young Brothers Massacre occurred Jan. 2, 1932, and a memorial to the men who died is just outside the Greene County courthouse at 1010 N. Boonville Ave. A posse of 10 lawmen and one civilian set out to confront the Young brothers, who they suspected were at a family farmhouse in Brookline. The brothers were running an interstate stolen vehicle ring along Route 66 from Illinois to Amarillo. The massacre was the largest loss of life for law enforcement officers in a single incident until 9/11
