Madonna of the Trail / Landmark in California
In 1924, Mrs. John Trigg Moss, Chair of the Daughters of the American Revolution, submitted plans for a monument that included this statue designed by August Leimbach, a St. Louis sculpture. An identical monument was to be erected in each of the 12 states along the National Old Trails Road corridor. This statue was dedicated on February 1, 1929.
