Standard Oil Gas Station / Attraction in Illinois
In 1932, Patrick O'Donnell, a local contractor purchased a parcel of land on Route 66 at the south side of Odell. Using the standard plans provided by Standard Oil of Ohio in 1916, built a gas station. In about 1940 he added a two bay garage. The Route 66 Association of Illinois Preservation Committee initiated restoration and preservation in 1995. IN 1997 the property was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Village of Odell acquired the station in 1999. Currently the historic station serves as a visitor center.
